chris parry artist workbook - images and comments on my on-going painting practice, comment on, or plugs for, selected exhibitions and works by other artists. This workbook provides me a chance to share my progress in a blog like format and other random things too. I'll try and keep it interesting but then I like watching paint dry. On the right is a selection of the latest posts (RSS Feeds) from a few art blog sites.

Stretching Canvas onto Stretcher Bars - Again. Quite good fun for filling in winters days but hard with cold fingers. I use several differnt types of stretcher bars - some kitset, some custom built and some recycled readymade type things. Basically because my practice involves a lot of accident or acts random happenstance, moments of chance over choice - some happy, some not so ideal - so I am left with a few works that just dont and therefore the canvas is removed and the stretcher bars recycled to go around the system again hoping for a better outcome next time round. I have currently been stretching canvas onto some new stretcher bars. These are large stretcher frames upto 84" x 48".

Waka is Tracey making? Auckland contemporary artist Tracey Williams known more for the 'domestic' than the 'trade,' has swapped her scissors for a jigsaw and pins for a hammer to create her own mini-me Noahs Art. Is she planning on leaving?, actually this is a behind the scenes of Tracey busy at work making her work for an upcoming show in Tauranga. I wouldn't be suprised if she picks those scissors back up again and starts cutting up tea-towells. Watch this space and plan a trip to Tauranga.

So what is Fine Art? Is it a beautiful representation of an elderly woman enjoying her pipe - why not? Art History students spend thier lives drooling over Fine Art, or in many cases slides of Fine Art. People make journeys of a lifetime on a pilgrimage to see, in person, works considered to be Fine Art. Some might be dissapointed that Mona is so small others wish they could touch David and his athletic magnificance while others are simply content, to be bewildered by modern(ish) fine art - especially when it's a urinal or maybe the lunatic drawings of a loner with an obsession for young girls with boys bits. Fine Art is not just high art but also low art like graffiti, actually that can be quite pricey these days - you could be robbing a banksy to pay for ya fine art. Some Fiine Artists blend goldfish others fly them around on planes, some fine artists paint but not many paint like they used to - art moves on, the conceptual factors evolve and represent, but I still like a lady with a pipe.

Christchurch Arts Festival The TV ONE Ice Dome inflates in Cathedral Square ahead of the opening on July 23. The above link takes you to the CAF facespace page - spreading the word on all things festival. So anyways it inflated live on webcam for the world to watch... The Festival website states "Step with us inside the TV ONE Ice Dome and be transported to a world of winter wonderment in this highlight of the Christchurch Arts Festival. Christchurch’s bold new movable landmark is a world-class venue that will see Christchurch join the ranks of the great winter festival cities. It is the ideal home to the ice rink that will be at the very heart of the Festival WinterGarden." Well publicity media-bites aside it is looking like a great festival and I wish I could afford to go to more things than I am - actually currently hold zero tickets but would be liking to go to both Royal NZ Ballet and Sydney Dance Company, Guess I'll be checking out the visual arts at the Gallery and I really should get another programme to look over... my advice is check it out! http://www.artsfestival.co.nz
