Home Art Workbook

chris parry artist workbook - images and comments on my on-going painting practice, comment on, or plugs for, selected exhibitions and works by other artists. This workbook provides me a chance to share my progress in a blog like format and other random things too. I'll try and keep it interesting but then I like watching paint dry. On the right is a selection of the latest posts (RSS Feeds) from a few art blog sites.

Callum Innes Untitled

Above: Untitled, from the Centro Series, Artist Callum Innes, 2008 2052mm x 1003mm

Delicious wet paint! Not so much a fan of the controlled masking in his works but I do like his dripping wet ones... guess there is an obvious similarity in our work/process in some instances..

Chris Parry Ephemeral 2009 Image 205

Edges. Fringes. Ephemeral scape of the edges -  where form and space meet.

Still working on rebuilding this site and mixing the painting time in to it.. progress is good and I apologise that the site is a bit behind, I have discovered that I lost all my catalogue images of previous years work so need to rescan a lot of photos - so old school. A few gaps here and there still on the site but getting there. In the studio I have yet again run out of space for drying works... it's a winter thing as much as it's a small studio space... bring back summer and what I think of as normal drying times. Running real low on medium having poured approximately 8 litres of the stuff in the last few weeks... lol. Have more ordered but it takes some time...

Augmented Sculpture Project

The Augmented Sculpture Project

Created by Pablo Valbuena, it mixes, according to him, a "volumetric base that serves as support for a second level, a virtual projected layer that allows controlling the transformation and sequentiality of space-time."

Fran Heinz drawing 2009

Sydney based contemporary artist Fran Heinz, a graduate from University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts who is now completing her post grad studies in Sydney. Fran, who majored in painting at Canterbury, and also featured in an emerging artist show at Christchurch City Gallery in 2008 had established a practice of installation as painting - these appeared often more sculptural than painterly but thse days the lines are blurred, anyways she is continuing with her 3 dimensional approach to painting but I received several images of her recent drawing works and since we dont see enough drawing anymore I was delighted. Franz drawing has always been strong and immediate, in the figurative studies I saw hints of Paula Rego which i liked.
